cat meets cat

i first printed this last november. i was in a rush, did this in two days. i was thinking to make a bookmark. this was the first time i did the aquatint by myself and it was okay, not so great. i didn't so much like it, so kind of abandoned the plate after i got couple of prints. later though, i got to like it and regretted that i didn't save the plate.
a few weeks ago, i accidently found the plate in the cabinet in the etching studio where so many plates were stacked up. i was happy, worked on this plate a little more. i put another layer of aquatint to make the background a little darker, put more line works. i used different color of inks, too. it is a very small print, but i like it a lot. this is always in my portfoio.

  1. I am interested in the expression of the other cat, I mean the cat almost hiding behind a tree. I do think she/he is smiling. If there were no title, "cat meets cat", I would rather put this as the title, 'Little prince and the fox disguised as strayed cats in a New York park, re-enacting their old retual of establishing the friendship.' Is it too long?
Anyway is the cat really smiling?

  2. I like that interpretation! Because this is about encounter, it works well. And as you imagine, the cat is really smiling. :-)
