After Maurice Sendak,

Before I knew anything about Maurice Sendak, just a little after I arrived in New York, I found IN THE NIGHT KITCHEN by him at the bookstore while I was just browsing at children's book section. I completely fell in love with the awesome, imaginative illustrations of the book and the wit of the story. It became the very first children's book that I ever bought myself. It was a while after that when I found he is one of Americans' favorite children's book authors/ illustrators.
What else can I say about his works.
I found in the library a while ago, another book of his from 1960s, called HIGGLETY PIGGLETY POP! OR, THERE MUST BE MORE TO LIFE. Illustrations done by delicate pen lines, black and white, just unbelievable. I photocopied some of those and kept them on my wall. I always thought it would be wonderful to redraw it with etching since the line works are so delicate. I didn't do it with etching, but copied it with pen and did color pencil over. Left, xerox from the book, right, my copy of it with color.

  1. Your color-copied one also is amazing and delightful. Then, what's the bag for?
